Car Insurance Lincoln (Car Insurance). Does running the AC filter air more than turning on the vents?Does running the AC filter air more than turning on the vents? Given a choice, I always run the vents instead of the AC. However, I'm suffering from seasonal allergies (tree pollen). That got me to wonder if running the AC filters out more pollen than just running air through the vents. If it's helpful to know, my car is a 1995 Mazda 626. Thanks! I doubt your car even has any filter system at all. Some newer high end models come with cabin air filters but I doubt your older car does. Check the owners manual to see if it has one. Lincoln . How to Change the Fuel Filter in a Honda AccordThe fuel filter in your Honda Accord keeps small particles and impurities from entering the engine's fuel injectors. Once gas is pumped from the gas tank, it travels through fuel lines and into the fuel filter before entering the injectors. If the fuel filter becomes clogged or ineffective with age, dirty fuel entering the injectors can cause engine wear, rough running and failure to start. The fuel filter in a Honda Accord should be changed every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Fuel filter Fluid catch pan 10mm open end wrench 14mm open end wrench 17mm open end wrench Step by Step : 1 Park the Honda Accord in a very well ventilated area. Gas fumes can be harmful. If possible, complete this job outdoors rather than in your garage. 2 Open and secure the car hood. Remove the cap from the Honda's fuel tank. 3 Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter for models 1990-1994 is located on the passenger side firewall. The fuel filter for models 1995 and newer is located on the rear of the engine, driver side, near the brake master cylinder. 4 Slide a fluid catch pan under the Accord in the general vicinity of the fuel filter. Remove the bottom fuel line by turning the fuel line nut with a 14mm open end wrench. Turn counter clockwise to loosen. Once that the fuel line is loose, finish unscrewing the fuel line nut with your fingers. Pull the fuel line out of the bottom of the fuel filter. 5 Loosen the top banjo bolt. Use a 17mm open end wrench to turn the banjo bolt that comes out of the top of the fuel filter. Turn it counter clockwise. Once you loosen the banjo bolt you can remove the fuel line. 6 Remove the top banjo bolt from the top of the fuel filter with a 17mm open end wrench. Turn the nut on the banjo bolt counter clockwise to loosen. Then finish unscrewing the fuel line from the top of the fuel filter. 7 Remove the two 10mm bolts from the clamp that holds the fuel filter in place. Use a 10mm open end wrench for this step. Once you remove the bolts, pull the fuel filter out of the bracket and discard the fuel filter into the catch pan. 8 Position the new fuel filter into the bracket and screw the 10mm bolts back into the bracket. Tighten the bolts with the 10mm open end wrench. 9 Screw the bottom fuel line into the bottom of the fuel filter. Tighten the fuel line nut with the 14mm open end wrench. Step by Step : 10 Screw the top banjo bolt into the top of the fuel filter. Tighten the banjo bolt with the 17mm open end wrench. Step by Step : 11 Slide the catch pan out from under the Accord. Put the gas cap back on the gas tank and tighten the gas cap completely. Turn the ignition to the On position four times to prime the new fuel filter with gas. Crank the engine on the fifth turn. Step by Step : 12 Inspect the new filter for fuel leaks with the car running. If there are no leaks, turn the engine off and close the hood. Tips & Warnings The fuel filter for the Honda cars will fit only one way due to the two different size fuel lines. This prevents anyone from installing a new fuel filter backwards. *belt after running the engine for 15 minutes and again at 100 miles. Keep old belts or spare belts in the trunk of your car for emergencies. If replacing one yourself doesn't seem worth the effort, many service stations can adjust or replace belts, but they may not have the specific belt you need. Replacing \lour Thermostat If your vehicle has been overheating or doesn't warm up properly, and none of the things in the preceding section is the problem, you may need to replace your thermostat. This little gizmo simply stays closed and keeps the liquid in the engine block until the engine heats up. Although a simple device, it can malfunction. If the thermostat sticks in the open position, it doesn't keep the liquid in the engine long enough, and you have trouble getting your car warmed up. If the 725

Because replacing the thermostat is quite simple and thermostats are quite inexpensive, you may want to try this task before you take more drastic measures: 1. Locate your thermostat, if you haven't already done so. Most thermostats are located where the top radiator hose joins the engine, so these steps deal with this type. If your thermostat is in the bottom radiator hose, the principle is the same. 2. Get a new one. Supply the usual information (vehicle make, model, year, and so on) to the auto supply store. If you've done other work on your vehicle, you should be an old hand by now. 3. Unscrew the clamp that holds the end of the radiator hose where your thermostat is located. !? Italy. Oldsmobile Bravada. * Some liquid will escape, so have a clean 2-gallon container handy to catch it, and return it to the radiator when you finish the job. Or you can consider this a golden opportunity to flush your cooling system and change the coolant by following the instructions earlier in this chapter. 5. Remove the bolts that hold the thermostat housing in place, and lift out the old thermostat. There's a gasket around it — get that off, too. Scrape off any pieces of gasket that may be stuck, but be sure not to let these pieces fall into the hole. 6. Lay the new gasket in place. If the new gasket doesn't match the old one, you probably have the wrong thermostat. 7. Drop in the new thermostat, making sure to place the spring side down (see Figure 14-17); then replace the bolts. Figure 14-17: Thermostats are replaced spring side down. Lincoln . Air Conditioners Most people tend to run the air conditioner in their vehicles until it breaks. However, air conditioners should be serviced professionally each year for some good reasons. Because air conditioners contain refrigerant under pressure, which can injure or blind you if it escapes, do not attempt to work on the air conditioner or its hoses yourself. If your vehicle was built prior to 1992, the air conditioner contains a refrigerant called Freon (CFC-12). Because Freon contributes to the breakdown of the ozone layer, manufacturers ceased production in 1995. Newer vehicles use an environmentally acceptable refrigerant called R-134a. If you have a pre-1992 vehicle and your air conditioner breaks down, you may find that Freon is hard to obtain. Your options are to either run without air conditioning or have the air conditioner converted so that it can use R-134a. To find out the cost to convert a vehicle's air conditioner from Freon to R-134a, consult the auto manufacturer or an authorized dealership or service facility, or call the EPA Stratospheric Ozone Information Hotline at 800-296-1996 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. EST. You can also find information about ozone on the Web at www. epa. gov/docs/ozone/i ndex. html. Lincoln . What is the fastest car in the wourld?
